Repeal of the death penalty PASSES Maryland Senate Committee!

Maryland's Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee voted 6-5 to repeal the death penalty!

This committee has long been one of the biggest obstacles to repeal. We have passed the highest hurdle - but the race isn’t over yet.

Next up is the Senate – our next big barrier to repeal. The Senate floor debate and vote could happen any day now.

If you live in Maryland: Can you email your state Senator before they vote? It only takes a minute and you can contact both your senator and your delegates in one shot.

Everyone else: the best way you can you can influence this campaign is to contact Maryland’s Governor, Martin O’Malley. Can you email the Governor now? Thank him for his leadership and ask him to use his sway on the Senate so they vote YES.

The committee vote turned on one State Senator, Robert Zirkin, who has agonized over his vote.

Zirkin said he was heavily influenced by the many family members of murder victims who have spoken out for repeal and told him that the death penalty does not provide closure or meet their needs.

Maryland’s death penalty is a colossal failure. It’s time to get rid of it. You can help.

Thanks for everything you do.
