Getting Stronger with the NAACP

Emma Weisfeld-Adams

Earlier this month EJUSA’s national organizer Cherrell joined friends from the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, and Murder Victims’ Families for Reconciliation to attend the NAACP’s annual conference.

The NAACP’s national leadership and local chapters were key to repealing Connecticut’s death penalty this year. We wanted to help the broader NAACP community make a similar impact on the repeal campaigns to come.

So we tabled and talked and flyered and friended. And our posse was one of the most popular at the conference!

We met one NAACP member from Colorado who told us about losing her father to murder in a case that was never solved. She said she wanted to see the death penalty repealed and more resources devoted to pursuing cold cases.

It was a special connection – but just one of many that add up and make our movement stronger.

If you know of any events where we might do more movement building, please let us know at ejedition [at] ejusa [dot] org.
