CT Governor Dannel Malloy Pledges to Sign Repeal
Jill L Francke
Last night on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy said he is "proud" to be able to sign the bill to repeal the state's death penalty. The bill recently passed through the state's House and Senate and is awaiting action by the Governor. The Governor spoke about being a prosecutor and supporting the death penalty until he saw how the system simply did not work.
As Governor Malloy noted on the show, states like Wisconsin and Maine repealed the death penalty in the 1800's. So this is not a new movement, he said, but a "slow movement that is picking up steam." We'll say! Connecticut will become the 5th state in five years to repeal the death penalty, with many more states considering it in the years to come.
