One in 100 Americans is in prison in the U.S. This piece in the Economist exposes the stories beneath the numbers - and demonstrates a system that has gone out of control. The billions spent locking up non-violent people for things like driving with a suspended license means money that isn't preventing crime or keeping us safe. Sound familiar? The death penalty is only one example of the criminal justice system's misaligned priorities - and this excellent article provides the bigger context in which we do our work for repeal.
